The brief
Polar Maps had a loyal following and an app that had grown one feature at a time. Hikers loved the maps but couldn’t find the offline mode, which is the reason most of them pay.
What I did
I rebuilt navigation around one question: where are you going next? Downloads moved to the trip screen, the map got a calmer style for bright sunlight, and every control can now be used with gloves on.
Offline downloads rose by 41% in the three months after launch, and one-star reviews about “the app being lost” stopped.
